Choosing the Right Rug Size

Not sure which size to choose? Here's a simple trick that works every time.

Use masking tape to mark the dimensions of the rug you're considering directly on your floor. Place the outline around your sofa, bed, or dining table to get a realistic sense of how it will look and fit in your space before you buy.

For the best result:

• Living Room: Position the rug so the front legs of your sofa sit on it, with the rug extending beyond each side.
• Bedroom: Place the rug under the lower two-thirds of the bed, allowing it to extend out from the sides and foot for a balanced look.
• Dining Room: Choose a rug large enough that chairs remain on the rug even when pulled out from the table.
